Adult Rowing

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

Whether you’re a seasoned rower or brand new to the sport, DUC has options that can be catered to fit your personal goals. Practices are held on the water at our boathouse and the Power Plant, our indoor erg studio located less than 10 minutes from White Rock Lake. We practice before we start our busy days, 6-7:30am.

ROWING ON WHITE ROCK LAKE

Our home lake offers amazing sunrises, an amusing assortment of wildlife and long
stretches of protected and open water to get your workouts done. If you’re a beginner,
you’ll start out on a super stable boat for 8 people and focus on stroke mechanics and
moving together.

Experienced rowers are asked to rsvp for scheduled, coached rows and will be put in
lineups of rowers with similar skills. We focus on both sweep and scull at DUC.

INDOOR ROWING/ERGS

The cornerstone of all good rowing is the indoor rowing machine or “erg”. Mention of
the erg is typically met with an eye roll, but it is THE most effective way to teach proper
stroke mechanics and build a strong cardio base. DUC athletes are lucky to have the
Power Plant, our air conditioned and heated studio featuring 50 ergs, professional gym
flooring and mirrors everywhere.

RECREATIONAL AND COMPETITIVE

Our masters team is made up of folks with impressive rowing resumes, those who just
finished a Learn to Row session and lots in between. Some are fierce competitors;
others are super-chill and looking to start their day with a good workout and good
people.

Sooner or later, most rowers can’t resist the temptation to race. At times, DUC masters
tag along with our youth team to regional regattas. We also have the option to choose
interesting races in random locations, travel as a team and rent boats from the venue.
Our current team made DUC history by being the first to compete at the Masters
National Championships in OKC in July 2024.
