SPRING TRIAL FOR NEW ROWERS

Try rowing for new high school rowers from 9th-12th grade.

This will be a mutual evaluation period where prospective competitive rowers for the U16, U17 and U19 squads grades 8-12 have the opportunity to participate in regular practice for two weeks to see if rowing is a good fit. Competitive rowing demands a high level of fitness and consistency- Dallas United Crew is a program that takes performance seriously, so joining the high school team requires a commitment to attend practice nearly every day and the determination to work hard toward technical and fitness goals. These goals will go hand in hand with our performances at regattas and on the National Stage. Coaches will assess rowers based on their enthusiasm and effort rather than focusing on technical ability or experience. For 8th graders, coaches will also consider their physical and emotional maturity to ensure they can interact effectively and keep pace with 9th and 10th graders.

At the end of the session, coaches will advise interested participants on either joining the team or waiting for another season—or to join our Middle School program. Season fees will be prorated for those who join the team. The trial period is mandatory for anyone new to the high school team, including those who rowed in middle school, participated in summer camp, or attended a learn-to-row session.

Cost: Prorated to date

Trial Dates: January 20th-31st

Approved participants join full time February 3rd (prorate February 3rd to May 5th)

2024-2025 RULES & EXPECTATIONS

ATTENDANCE

DUC places a high value on commitment, dedication, and teamwork. Regular attendance is crucial for individual and team progress, skill development, and overall success. However, we understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, leading to occasional absences. To strike a balance between promoting accountability and accommodating genuine reasons for missing practices, we have established an attendance policy found here.

VACATION DATES

Practices at the Power Plant will pause from December 21st, 2024 through January 6th, 2025. This is the best time amid the seasons to vacation.

The boathouse will also be closed from November 25th through December 1st (Tuesday through Sunday of the week of Thanksgiving) except for Alumni Day on Friday, November 29th. Current rowers are encouraged but not required to attend as an opportunity to row with alumni and mingle with old teammates.

Based on our summer schedules, if an athlete is interested in racing for our High-Performance Team, it is recommended that Families plan Summer travel in the latter half of July into the early weeks of August 2025.
