High School Rowing
Dallas United offers rowing programs for teens from 7th grade through 12th grade. Rowing is one of the best exercises for increased fitness, strength, and cardiovascular capacity. Teamwork, accountability, confidence, and mental focus are all benefits of coming together as one in a boat on the water.
DUC serves the community by combatting childhood obesity, promoting physical literacy, and teaching life skills through training, competition, and earned experiences. Dallas United gets teens moving on the water and in life. We are the largest youth rowing program in North Texas, boasting some of the best coaches and facilities in the sport. DUC's coaches bring skills that introduce athletes to the sport in a way that makes them great athletes and great rowers. Our athletes are prepared to race elite crews from all over the country at the highest level. First-season rowers enter the team as a "novice", and then progress to the "Varsity" level, while also being designated in age groups. DUC competes regionally and nationally at the U16, U17, and U19 levels.
At DUC we designed a program that will teach athletes everything they need to know to learn the sport of rowing, 90% of our first-year athletes had no previous rowing experience before coming to DUC. You bring the grit, we will give you the training. MULTISPORT ATHLETES WELCOME!
"I saw it happen to my sons and to so many others. In this sport, there are no superstars, there’s no one who scores the winning point. The whole crew in the boat, they all win or lose together. You crossed the line together. They call it the ultimate team sport for that. I see it happen and then I see them kind of transcend. All of a sudden, you have a kid who has confidence and who is getting physical fitness. They’re part of a group of people who would do anything for them. "

WHAT MAKES A DUC STUDENT ATHLETE?
ELEVATING SCHOLAR-ATHLETES
ACADEMICS FIRST

DUC Youth Rowers are guided to put the Student in Student-Athlete. With years of experience training the fastest crews in USRowing's Central Region, our coaches recognize that academic success and rowing success are inextricably linked. Our culture reflects this. Built into our schedule and training are student-friendly policies such as excused practice on SAT and ACT dates, an allowance for school and other extracurricular absences, and dedicated study hours.

ATHLETE RECOGNITION

Rowing, like school-sponsored (UIL) sports, builds character and life skills. Yet, offering rowing exceeds the resources of public schools. DUC's partners educators' teams with our coaches to establish standards and elevate rowers with in-school awards like varsity letters and scholar-athlete designations.

SERVICE HOURS

Some public school districts and private schools have established a minimum number of hours in community service as a graduation requirement. Service is woven into DUC's culture. As a non-profit, DUC offers a variety of service opportunities working with adaptive rowers, disadvantaged youth, or in stewardship of the lake we call home.

EARNING P.E. CREDITS

Texas Law and Off Campus Physical Education (for public school districts): Texas Education Code 28.025(b-10), and Texas Administrative Code (TAC) Chapter 74, Subchapter B authorize awarding physical education credit for student participation in appropriate private or commercially sponsored physical education programs.

House Bill 72 and Subsequent Legislation: Comprehensive References and Explanations (page 153) states that such off-campus education programs are essentially Olympic events where students spend significant amounts of time in training. The Commissioner of Education approves each school district’s off-campus physical education programs.
